北京时间4月6日，哈斯勒姆在个人最新一期的播客节目中谈到了2008-09赛季的MVP归属问题，他表示，这一荣誉本应属于韦德。

哈斯勒姆说：“那个时候，当詹姆斯需要休息的时候，我们还是能从韦德那里得到一样的得分产出。我不记得是哪一年了，因为我一直在热火，可能是08-09年吧，韦德大概率是可以拿MVP的，他本应该拿MVP的，他当时可被认为是世界上最强的球员！”

2008-09赛季，韦德场均能得到30.2分5.0篮板7.5助攻2.2抢断1.3盖帽，在MVP票选中最终排名第三，热火43胜39负排名东部第五。而该赛季詹姆斯场均28.4分7.6篮板7.2助攻1.7抢断1.1盖帽，骑士66胜16负排名东部第一，最终詹姆斯生涯首次收获MVP。
